Missouri cross country star Karissa Schweizer was honored with the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's award for Midwest Regional Women's Runner of the Year.
Shweizer clinched the regional recognition after winning the women's six-kilometer title at the NCAA Midwest Region Cross Country Championships in Ames, Iowa, on Friday. She was the only runner to finish the regional championship race in under 20 minutes (19:50.9) and bested the second-place finisher by 20 seconds.
This season, Schweizer also won the Midwest Regional Championship and the SEC Championship for the second consecutive year. Additionally, the senior was recognized as the SEC Runner of the Year for the second time in as many seasons.
