In March 1991, a major ice storm struck the small town where I lived in rural Indiana. This seems like something that isn’t notable at all for a post about the history between Penn State and UCLA.

But, we’ll get there. Have patience.

Back to history, Saturday marks only the seventh meeting ever between the two schools and the first since the late 1960s. In 1968, Penn State won the last meeting between the two teams at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum before about 35,000 fans. Penn State went on to finish unbeaten, the first of Joe Paterno’s five unbeaten seasons.
