The most recent time Paul Haynes visited Beaver Stadium — in his first year as Kent State’s coach in 2013 — he watched Penn State trample his team, 34-0.
But even a final score like that wasn’t enough to make Haynes’ lasting impression of the Nittany Lions’ home anything less than “unbelievable.”
Haynes, speaking on a MAC conference call today, reminisced about playing at Beaver Stadium in 2005 when he was an assistant at Ohio State. It was Penn State’s second-ever White-Out, and the Nittany Lions pulled off a 17-10 upset against the Buckeyes in primetime.
“It’s one of the only ones that I remember that, usually when you pull up to Big Ten stadiums, you saw more scarlet than you saw other colors,” Haynes said.
