After nearly two years on the shelf, HBO's original film about Joe Paterno is back in progress.

Details on the plot are scarce, but it will follow the coach's tumultuous fall after the Jerry Sandusky's child sexual abuse scandal.

The yet-unnamed project will be directed by Barry Levinson and is set to star Al Pacino as Paterno. The actor has been connected to the film since its inception several years ago, though HBO put it on the back burner shortly after the project was announced.

"We have suspended pre-production for a moment to deal with budget issues, but the project is still intact at HBO with the entire creative team as before," an HBO representative told Deadline in September 2014.
