The New York Jets sent Ryan Fitzpatrick, Geno Smith and Bryce Petty onto the field in their first preseason game of the year Thursday night. Never Christian Hackenberg.
New York's second-round pick sat out the entirety of the Jets' 17-13 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Head coach Todd Bowles told reporters after the game that there simply wasn't enough time for Hackenberg to play and he'd only be hurting the former Penn State signal caller.
Fitzpatrick was 3 of 4 for 72 yards, Smith went 8 of 14 for 79 and Petty – a fourth-round pick last year – completed 7 of 14 passes for 93 yards.
