Ace Baldwin Jr. dribbled up the floor as time ticked away with just over 50 seconds left, his squad in a heated close battle with Maryland.
However, unbeknownst to Baldwin at that moment, Penn State could never close its small deficit in crunch time to the Terrapins, who held on for a 68-64 win over the Nittany Lions inside the Bryce Jordan Center on Saturday.
“We had a couple of good enough stops on defense late to give ourselves a chance,” coach Mike Rhoades said.
Despite a late baseline jumper falling in for Maryland guard Rodney Rice, the Nittany Lions’ defense gave their offense opportunities to tie or even take a lead late, but the team could never take advantage.
