Between the noise surrounding the Olympics and a quiet offseason in State College, the NCAA updated a ruling that will allow for more scholarships on wrestling rosters, among other sports.
Each collegiate wrestling program will now receive up to 30 scholarships to disperse for each season’s roster — which means more opportunities in the sport, but also opens up questions for athletes and their coaches.
Prior to the recent change, wrestling squads were only allowed 9.9 scholarships for each team. The team has held over 30 wrestlers for several seasons, so it’s managed the previous rule well, but now extra flexibility for other programs might take away from the size of future rosters.
