On the first day of the early signing period, Dave Clawson went to Wake Forest’s practice that afternoon and walked around “like a madman,” he said.
It had nothing to do with waiting on expected players’ letters to come through — all 21 of the Deacons’ signees were in by that time. It had everything to do with hearing that the six seniors who were scheduled to graduate from the university last month received the grades to do so.
“I was at practice and I’m pacing … because the grades are coming in, and every 10 minutes (assistant athletics director) Jordan Jarry … is saying, ‘He got his grades, he’s graduating,’” Clawson said.
