After averaging 7.7 points over the past month, redshirt sophomore Gracie Merkle came alive in the team’s Return to Rec Hall.
Halfway through the second quarter, Merkle already surpassed her highest-scoring game since Dec. 15 against Kansas, scoring 15 points on 7-7 shooting.
Although the game ultimately ended in a loss for the Lady Lions, the Mount Washington, Kentucky, native led the team in scoring for the first time since its match against the Jayhawks.
Merkle scored first for the blue and white off of a Kaylene Smikle turnover and didn’t look back, capitalizing off a turnover by sinking a layup.
