I just received a call from a veteran college football writer I know from out in the Cornbelt asking for a little guidance about Saquon Barkley. Specifically, this guy, who saw the explosion of the Wishbone in the 1970s, who saw Greg Pruitt and Billy Sims and Mike Rozier and Thurman Thomas and Barry Sanders up close, wanted to know my thoughts on whether Barkley could fit onto the pantheon of great college backs of our lifetime.
It’s a little early for that judgment and that’s part of the point. Is it possible? That was the preface of his story.
