Giveaways continue to hamper Penn State men’s hockey’s momentum

The Pegula Ice Arena goal horn went off three times on Saturday, but two out of Penn State’s three goal scorers have probably never learned the quadratic formula.

Those two goal scorers were members of Penn State’s youth hockey development program that played during the second intermission.

And if there was a formula to stop giving the puck away in its own zone, the Nittany Lions seem to have forgotten it as evidenced by their last few games, including a 7-1 shellacking at the hands of the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Saturday.

The Lions gave the puck away everywhere on the ice and in every facet of the game from over-aggression on the power play to virtually passing the puck to the eager Gophers tunneling around and popping their heads up in the Lions’ defensive zone.
