Penn State lost out on a top recruiting target Thursday, when four-star Virginia safety Cam’Ron Kelly verbally committed to Virginia Tech.
Kelly is 6 feet 1, 200 pounds and is ranked as the No. 135 player in the nation by Rivals.com.
He had long been considered likely to land at Penn State, but Clemson and Virginia Tech, among other schools, got back into contention for him recently.
Ohio State, Notre Dame and Auburn were among the other schools vying to get his commitment.
Kelly is rated the No. 5 prospect in Virginia, and would have been the fourth of the top eight there to pledge to the Nittany Lions.
