Former Penn State women's basketball coach Rene Portland dies at 65

After a three-year fight against cancer, former Penn State women’s basketball coach Rene Portland has died. She was 65 years old.

In 1980, the late Lady Lion coach joined the Penn State legacy when she was hired by former athletic director and football coach Joe Paterno. She was the only head coach hired by Paterno.

Coach earns 600th victory
