Penn State picked up a commitment while most people were sleeping late Thursday night, as junior college safety JaQuan Brisker, a former Gateway High School standout, pledged to join the Nittany Lions’ 2019 recruiting class about four minutes before midnight.
Brisker measures 6-feet-2, 200 pounds and held offers from schools including Pitt, Alabama and Big Ten foe Maryland before choosing Penn State. He’ll head to Happy Valley after playing out his sophomore season this fall at Lackawanna Community College, where he recorded 54 tackles and four interceptions last season.
The commitment is a big win for assistant coach Terry Smith, the former Gateway High School coach who has a close relationship with Brisker.
