A thick layer of fog may have coated the night sky, but not even that could hide the ugly brand of baseball on display at Medlar Field Wednesday.
The level of play reflected the poor weather as Penn State and Cornell combined for 20 walks, 19 runners left on base, four wild pitches, four hit batsmen, four errors and plenty of other miscues. The two teams also combined for more runs than hits.
A team that issues 10 walks, makes three errors, leaves eight runners on base and gives up six runs doesn’t typically win, but such was the case Wednesday in a bizarre fog-shortened game in which the Big Red defeated the Nittany Lions, 10-6.
