When Mike London was hired as Richmond’s coach in 2008, he retained six assistants from the staff of his predecessor, Dave Clawson. Among those holdovers was defensive coordinator Russ Huesman, and the London-Huesman combination helped the Spiders win the 2008 FCS championship.
“He let you coach and let the players play,” Huesman said of London. “I think the players really loved him. He was fantastic to work for, and I consider him a really good friend.”
The two will reunite at UR Saturday, when Howard, coached by London, visits the Spiders, coached by Huesman. London’s association with Richmond started in 1979, when he arrived as a student and defensive back from Hampton's Bethel High.
