Through the first dozen games of the season, Penn State starting pitchers failed to throw at least five innings in six contests. That was not the case this weekend however, as deep starts from all three starting pitchers helped the Nittany Lions take two of three from NJIT.
“I’ll take two out of three always in a series,” coach Rob Cooper said. “We won the series.”
Penn State swept Saturday’s doubleheader, winning 4-3 and 5-3. The Highlanders were able to strike back and salvage a win on Sunday, defeating the Nittany Lions 8-6.
All three starting pitchers completed six innings of work and left the game with the lead in hand, which put the blue and white in great positions to win.
