Early-season ranked matchups preparing No. 12 Penn State women’s hockey for season ahead

Following a series split against No. 9 UConn, Penn State sits at 2-2, with both losses coming to ranked opponents.

Opening the campaign against tough competition could prepare the Nittany Lions for what’s ahead.

“It should give them confidence,” coach Jeff Kampersal said. “They are resilient. We’re constantly learning and trying to get better, but they know that they can compete with anyone.”

Resiliency is something the blue and white continues to work on. Game 1 against UConn didn’t go Penn State’s, blowing a two-goal third-period lead en route to a 3-2 loss.

Kampersal chalked the loss up to effort, something he said UConn brought more of in the final period.
