Duquesne’s valiant effort in the fourth quarter came up short against Dayton, as the Flyers held on for a 79-70 victory Wednesday at Dayton Arena.
Julijana Vojinovic led all scorers with 23 points and recorded a season-high seven assists. Kadri-Ann Lass scored 15 and Paige Cannon 11 for the Dukes (18-4, 8-1 Atlantic 10)
JaVonna Layfield recorded a double-double of 18 points and a game-high 17 rebounds for Dayton (17-4, 10-0). Jenna Burdette also scored 18 and Jayla Scaife 16.
Dayton opened the game by scoring the first eight points. They finished the first quarter by hitting 50 percent of their shots, building a 20-9 lead.
