Swimming is often seen as a highly individualized sport.
There are no goals to be scored, no ball or puck to be passed back and forth and no strategies or playbooks that need to be remembered. Swimmers are competing for their best times, and even though Penn State competes as a team, the scores are just an accumulation of every individual’s performance.
Despite this, Penn State’s swimmers and coaches both insist chemistry is a very important component to the team’s success, as well as the individual’s, and can even motivate faster swimming.
There is possibly no greater proponent of this belief on the Penn State team than coach Tim Murphy .
