DeAndre Thompkins breaks Penn State's punt return TD drought, draws praise

In 2008, former Penn State wide receiver Derrick Williams zipped through Wisconsin’s defense to return a punt for a touchdown. The 63-yard return was an impressive play that has gained even more notoriety with time.

Before Saturday, Williams’ punt return touchdown was the last one to occur in a Penn State uniform. That nine-year drought ended against Akron, when redshirt junior DeAndre Thompkins brought one to the house for 61 yards in the first quarter.

Williams, who is now apart of the Penn State Sports Network Broadcast Team, smiled from the sideline.

“I went to the sideline when I sat down and he was extremely proud,” Thompkins said.
