College football can play a part in recovering from Houston tragedy

The usual move on social media is to send “thoughts and prayers” to the people of Houston as they deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

It’s also trendy to blast BYU or LSU football fans who complain about having to change their travel plans because the flooding forced the game to be moved to New Orleans.

“Football doesn’t matter. It’s not important and doesn’t mean anything.”

No one thinks football is more important than what’s going on in Texas. But football can have a profound effect on recovering from tragedy. Normalcy can help us realize that eventually, everything will be OK.
