CLEMSON FOOTBALL: Elliott sees offense being ready for test

CLEMSON — The Clemson offense was supposed to play second fiddle to the defensive unit this year after suffering the losses of wide receivers Mike Williams and Artavis Scott, tight end Jordan Leggett, running back Wayne Gallman and two-time Heisman Trophy finalist Deshaun Watson.

The 2017 squad apparently missed the memo, as they amassed 665 yards of total offense in the season-opening game against Kent State — including 312 yards passing and 353 yards rushing. It was only the fourth time in school history the offense surpassed 300 rushing and passing yards in a single game.

“Very pleased with how we started,” co-offensive coordinator Tony Elliott said.
