In a banquet hall next to a church, Lamont Wade chose from the trinity of local college football teams: Penn State, Pitt and West Virginia.
Saturday night, it was the Nittany Lions who won the recruiting showdown for the WPIAL’s highest-rated prospect in recent memory.
Wade, who finished his career as the WPIAL’s third-leading rusher all time and tied for the most touchdowns in WPIAL history, announced Saturday night at Ascension of Our Lord Byzantine Catholic Church in Clairton that he will join James Franklin’s 2017 recruiting class. While he was an offensive and defensive maven for the perennial Class 1A powerhouse Bears, Wade’s future is at cornerback.
