The start of Southeastern Conference play didn't change Texas A&M's youth movement on the football team. If anything, it reinforced what the Aggies are doing.
A&M played 37 underclassmen, 26 of them freshmen, to beat Arkansas 50-43 in overtime on Saturday in Arlington. That's nine more underclassmen than they used in last year's game, and the numbers are staggering when you look at only freshmen. A&M played 10 in last year' 45-24 victory. That represented 17.2 percent of the 58 players used. This year, A&M again used 58 players, but 44.8 percent were freshmen.
That bodes well for the future, provided A&M also can win now.
