Some B1G news came out this morning from Chicago at conference headquarters, where it was announced that Commissioner Jim Delany will be retiring on June 30, 2020, the date his contract expires. Delany has been conference commissioner since 1989, so do the math, and he has overseen quite a bit in the past 30 years.
Needless to say, while some good things have happened under Delany’s watch — namely the advent and success of the Big Ten Network, increased revenue share amongst schools, and the addition of Penn State and Nebraska into the conference. He has also been sharply criticized for inconsistencies when going to bat for each school, as well as the most recent expansion of Rutgers and Maryland.
