There weren't any surprises involved in the University of Wisconsin's hiring of a 10th assistant football coach.
The Badgers announced Thursday that offensive quality control assistant Jon Budmayr will be promoted to quarterbacks coach. The former UW signal caller was thought to be a favorite for the position after the NCAA passed legislation last April that allowed FBS programs to hire a extra assistant coach beginning Jan. 9.
Because outside linebackers coach Tim Tibesar left UW to become Oregon State’s defensive coordinator, the Badgers were able to promote Budmayr before Jan. 9.
Budmayr joined head coach Paul Chryst's staff when he arrived in 2015 as a graduate assistant and served as a quality control assistant each of the past two seasons.
