TUSCALOOSA — The first play of a game organizers hailed as the greatest season-opener of all time thrust Alabama’s unhyped right tackle into the spotlight.
Playing the first meaningful snap of his three-year Crimson Tide career, Matt Womack rose from his stance to create a hole. Florida State linebacker Matthew Thomas crashed the running lane. Womack tossed him aside, allowing Tide running back Damien Harris to spring free for a 34-yard gain.
“It (was) my first opportunity to really show what I could do,” Womack said Tuesday. “I went out and just did what I could do.
