Al Pacino to play Joe Paterno in movie about Jerry Sandusky scandal

Al Pacino will play the role of former Penn State football coach Joe Paterno in a new, yet-to-be-titled HBO movie, according to “Variety”.

Although many details have not yet been released, the film will focus on the fallout from the Jerry Sandusky sexual abuse scandal at Penn State as it relates to Paterno’s legacy.

Paterno, who remains the most victorious coach in FBS history with 409 wins, saw his career abruptly end in 2011 when Sandusky’s crimes surfaced. A 2012 report concluded Paterno and other Penn State officials knew of Sandusky’s wrongdoing but did little to stop it.
