After a record-breaking season, Russell Westbrook should win NBA MVP

Up until late Sunday afternoon, James Harden would have been my vote for NBA MVP.

But I can’t deny it anymore — Russell Westbrook is the clear choice.

As a basketball fan, I have always preferred most valuable player recognition to go to players who make their teammates better and score efficiently without demanding the majority of the shots.

That’s why, for a good portion of the season, I even considered the Spurs’ Kawhi Leonard for MVP, but I have succumbed to the impressive nature of Westbrook’s amazing statistical accomplishments.

With just over four minutes remaining in the Oklahoma City Thunder’s game against the Denver Nuggets on Sunday afternoon, Westbrook drove to the lane but passed the ball to teammate Semaj Christon in the corner who drilled the wide-open 3-pointer to cut the Nuggets’ lead to 10.
