Adam Bittner: It’s time for Pitt, Penn State to chart rivalry's future

Penn State coach James Franklin, speaking at a Coaches Caravan event Thursday night in Cranberry Township, suggested the Nittany Lions' upcoming four-game series with Pitt may be extended past its 2019 expiration date.

Then today, Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi told Sirius XM told Sirius XM College Sports Nation: “Next year we play Penn State for the next four years and hopefully for the next 44 years.”

Let’s hope such talk is the beginning of the schools figuring out what the long-term future of their rivalry is going to look like, because the uncertainty of the past 15 years since their last meeting at Three Rivers Stadium in 2000 has been exhausting for fans on both sides.
