As Christian Hackenberg enters what could be his last season at Penn State, he certainly doesn’t rank among the school’s great all-time winners. His 14-11 record pales not only in comparison to the scores of All-Americans who’ve come through Happy Valley over the years, but even fairly average passers such as Chuck Fusina, Chuck Burkhart and Daryll Clark.
That said, his commitment to and relentless advocacy for the program through its darkest days unquestionably makes him the most valuable player who’s ever stepped foot on the University Park campus.
Consider where Penn State was at the time of his commitment in February 2012, just a few months removed from the explosive indictments in the Jerry Sandusky case.
