Put simply, Kent State was one of the worst teams in college football in 2023. In fact, Athlon Sports even ranked them dead last, No. 133, in its season-ending poll of all FBS programs. The Golden Flashes went 1-11 overall in coach Kenni Burns’s first year, with their lone win coming at home against Central Connecticut State. Kent State was winless in the MAC and just one of their losses on the year came by less than two scores. Probably the most notable performance of 2023 was a somewhat respectable 28-10 loss at the hands of Arkansas.
