Even on St. Patrick’s Day, Saturday’s game between Notre Dame and Penn State proved that luck isn’t always on the side of the Irish.
The No. 4-seeded Nittany Lions went into South Bend, Indiana, and came away with a big 73-63 upset win over the top-seeded Fighting Irish to advance to the quarterfinals of the NIT.
It was more than just luck that led Penn State to the upset win, though.
Tony Carr was held to just two points in Wednesday’s win over Temple, but returned to form nicely for a 24-point, four rebound, four assist showing.
