10-run 3rd inning propels Penn State softball to victory over Loyola Chicago

Penn State took the field for Day 2 of the Fonesca Memorial to face Loyola Chicago after dropping both of its games on Friday. The Nittany Lions’ two losses put them at 1-6 on the season.

The Ramblers split their Friday contests, defeating St. John’s 2-1 and falling to USF 9-1.

The blue and white won 12-2.

Penn State took the field first, with senior Lydia Spalding getting her first start of the young season. Spalding put two runners on, but Loyola Chicago couldn’t capitalize.

The Nittany Lions faced reigning A-10 Pitcher of the Year Peyton Pepkowski, who came into the match still in search of her first win of the year.
