The Penn State Nittany Lions are going bowling for the second straight year after posting a 7-5 mark in an extremely tough Big Ten this year, and there are plenty of potential options on the table for them. Here are their three most likely opponents this bowl season:
Georgia Bulldogs
Many think Penn State could be destined for the Music City Bowl, and if that's the case, Georgia would likely be their opponent. There's plenty of reasons to be excited about a matchup between these two traditional college football powers, and fans wouldn't have to travel very far.
Pitt Panthers
If Penn State decides to stay close to home, the Quick Lane Bowl in Detroit and a matchup with in-state rival Pitt is a real option. These two sides nearly met up last postseason, and it appears they're headed to a bowl matchup sooner rather than later. These two could also meet up in the Pinstripe Bowl.
Cal Golden Bears
There are multiple bowl scenarios in which Penn State would play a Pac-12 team, though the most likely scenario is the Foster Farms Bowl in Santa Clara, CA. Cal is expected to make the short trip to be the Pac-12 representative in the game, providing an interesting matchup between two of the top quarterback prospects in the country in Cal's Jared Goff and Penn State's Christian Hackenberg.
