The Penn State Nittany Lions are going bowling for the second straight year after posting a 7-5 mark in an extremely tough Big Ten this year, and there are plenty of potential options on the table for them. Here are Penn State's three most likely bowl destinations this year:
New Era Pinstripe Bowl (ACC/Notre Dame vs. Big Ten)
Sat., Dec. 26, 3:30 p.m. ET
Yankee Stadium, Bronx, NY
The Pinstripe Bowl is lower on Penn State's list as they played in - and won - this bowl last year, but it's still one of the better options for the Nittany Lions. New York has a ridiculously large concentration of Penn State alumni, and the organizers know that Penn State probably their best catch from a commercial standpoint.
Quick Lane Bowl (Big 10 vs ACC/Notre Dame)
Mon., Dec. 28, 5:00 p.m. ET
Ford Field, Detroit, MI
This is a low-to-mid-tier bowl in Big 10 country, and they'll probably end up with either Penn State or Indiana representing the B1G against Virginia Tech, Duke, or Pittsburgh. The Penn State - Pitt matchup is probably the most interesting with two in-state rivals, though playing the Hokies in head coach Frank Beamer's last game could be exciting as well. Both of those scenarios will significantly increase Penn State's desire to play in this game.
Foster Farms Bowl (Big Ten vs. Pac-12)
Sat., Dec. 26, 9:15 p.m. ET
Levi's Stadium, Santa Clara, CA
If the organizers want to try and fill up Levi's Stadium (home of the San Francisco 49ers), Penn State is the best bet from the Big Ten (we know from the 2009 Rose Bowl that PSU fans travel well to the West Coast). Cal, UCLA, and Arizona State are all possibile opponents. Penn State could easily sell the chance to play at the site of Super Bowl 50 to both players and alumni.
