The Penn State football team announced the dismissal of freshman linebacker Daiquan Kelly on Saturday afternoon, citing an unspecified violation of team rules.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pounder signed with PSU in February out of Union City High School in New Jersey. He was originally a Syracuse commit, but decided to flip to Penn State in September when the program's scholarship sanctions were lifted.
A three-star prospect coming out of prep school and the # 9 prospect in the state of New Jersey per 247Sports, Kelly was expected to slot in at outside linebacker for the Nittany Lions.
Kelly was a high school teammate of freshman offensive lineman Steven Gonzalez who is jockeying for depth chart positioning this summer.
We'll have more on the reasoning for Kelly's dismissal as additional information is made available.
