Marshfield (Mass.) tight end Daniel Dalton put in a call to Penn State Nittany Lions head coach James Franklin on Saturday morning, informing Franklin of his intentions to join the program.
The four-star prospect says that Franklin was beyond thrilled with the news.
“I called coach Franklin this morning and gave him my commitment, and when I told him that he just dropped the phone and started screaming. He was in daycare with his two daughters and I could hear him yelling at the top of his lungs,” recalled Dalton.
“He put his two daughters on the phone, they both said congratulations and welcomed me to Penn State. That was really cool.”
Dalton committed to Boston College early on, but the 2016 standout stepped back one teams such as Alabama, Nebraska and Penn State entered the fray. However, it was the Nittany Lions who present the complete package he is looking for.
“Ever since the day I visited Penn State for the first time, they’ve been the No. 1 school on my list,” explained Dalton. “I had offers from Alabama, North Carolina, a bunch of great schools, but there was something different about Penn State. There’s just a different feel.
“You’re going to get a true college experience in a college town, play big time football and get a great education. Everyone from the training staff, the strength and conditioning staff, the recruiting operations to the coaches - it’s a family atmosphere like I’ve never experienced.
“Every time I went to Penn State, I felt like I was at home. I feel like I left Marshfield and nothing changed. I can’t wait to get there and become a part of the family, because it’s a special place.”
