Penn State Nittany Lions head coach James Franklin is happy to have both defensive coordinator Bob Shoop and defensive line coach Sean Spencer back after both were targeted by other major programs looking to fill coaching vacancies.
"[Shoop] is the guy that became a big story, but we've got a bunch of guys on our staff that got offers and opportunities to move on and turned [them] down," Franklin said of Shoop's January interview with LSU, via Of The Morning Call's Mark Wogenrich. "... That stability and that continuity that we saw here at Penn State for a long time, we want to try to be able to do that as well because we know how valuable it is."
Franklin added that the "valuable" continuity of having his entire coaching staff back for Year 2 has tangible on-field benefits when it comes to setting up a gameplan.
"I don't care if you run the same scheme, if you bring a different coach in, he's going to have some different opinions or philosophies or techniques," Franklin told reporters. "We don't have that. At every single position, not only the scheme is the same but the philosophy, the techniques, things like that, are the same."
