The start of the college football season is nearly here. Fall camps have wrapped up, with some players standing out more than others. The Penn State Nittany Lions need a few players to step up if they want to improve on last year's 7-6 record. Here are three players who stood out at Penn State fall camp, according to Pennlive.com.
Jason Cabinda, LB
The sophomore linebacker appears to have locked up a starting spot at linebacker. A former three-star recruit, Cabinda might develop into the next stud from Linebacker U. He picked off QB Christian Hackenberg is a scrimmage, although he was taken down by a WR.
Brandon Polk, WR
There aren't many FBS players smaller than Polk, who is generously listed at 5-9, 170-pounds. There might not be many players faster than Polk either. Hackenberg needs more weapons, and the speedy Polk could make an impact as a freshman.
"Polk is fast as lightning," WR DaeSean Hamilton told Pennlive.com. "He's out there making plays, and he's out the gate."
It was Polk who made the tackle on Cabinda in the scrimmage, despite giving up 75 pounds.
John Reid, CB
Another true freshman, Reid is making a push to start at cornerback.
"John Reid he's really stepped up, and he's doing a lot of things you saw Grant Haley do last year," Hamilton told Pennlive.com.
Even if he doesn't start, Reid should see plenty of playing time.
