STOCKTON — Despite Delta’s hard-fought, five-set loss to visiting Sierra College, Mustangs coach Molly Mordaunt-Hummel and her young team said it felt like the team took a step forward on Wednesday during Big 8 Conference play at Marcopulos Gym.
Delta lost 3-2 after posting scores of 21-25, 25-12, 25-19, 19-25, 12-15. A vocal crowd saw an evenly-played match between the No. 21 Mustangs (8-3, 2-1 Big 8) and No. 15 Sierra (9-2, 3-0), but Delta couldn’t hold its 10-9 lead in the final set.
“We just weren’t able to finish,” Mordaunt-Hummel said. “Obviously we’re a young group, we’ve got a lot of new bodies in this gym, and the more matches that go to five, the better we’re going to be.
