STOCKTON - Something had to change for University of the Pacific pitcher Marissa Young.
Prone to letting her excitement get the best of her, the senior told herself to slow down against West Coast Conference rival BYU on Friday.
The result was a 2-0 victory - the first time the Tigers’ seniors have ever celebrated against the Cougars - in Game 1 of a series-opening doubleheader at Bill Simoni Field. BYU won the second game 1-0. The series finales is today at 1 p.m.
Counting to three before delivering was the key for Young (3-8) in the opener.
