Tough day at Delta

STOCKTON – After losing its past two games by a combined total of two points, the Delta College football team opened its Big 8 Conference opener Saturday on the wrong side of a blowout against the Laney Eagles at Lawrence De Ricco Field.

Laney scored 40 consecutive points to defeat the Mustangs 40-7 behind a strong rushing attack and a trio of big plays. The Eagles (5-1, 1-0 National Valley Conference) outgained Delta (2-4, 0-1) in total yards by a margin of 527-187.

“I think on the offensive side of the ball we want to compete harder up front, and be a little bit more physical at the point of attack,” Delta coach Gary Barlow said.
