Lafayette Dorsey came off the bench with a big game and University of the Pacific’s men’s basketball team opened the season with a win.
Dorsey had 18 points as the Tigers scored the first 16 points of the game and beat SIU-Edwardsville 74-65 on Tuesday in front of a crowd of 1,387 at Edwardsville, Illinois.
The Tigers (1-0) had a fine shooting day for their opener, making 24 of 49 attempts (49 percent) from the floor. Dorsey, a sophomore guard from Los Angeles, made five of his 10 shots and seven of his eight free throws.
The Cougars didn’t score for the first five minutes of the contest, and trailed by 16.
