For one quarter, University of the Pacific’s upset bid against the 17th-ranked women’s basketball team in the country looked not only possible, but likely.
Unfortunately for the Tigers, they cooled off and Gonzaga heated up.
Pacific had an 11-poinbt lead after a quarter and shot 50 percent from the field in the first half, but the Bulldogs took control on their way to a 88-65 win on Saturday afternoon in front of a crowd of 5,807 at McCarthy Athletic Center in Spokane, Washington. It was Pacific’s first West Coast Conference lost of the season.
The Tigers (9-4, 2-1) knew the challenge that they faced against the Bulldogs (15-1, 4-0), who are often referred to as the Zags.
