Tigers close, but Gaels slip away

STOCKTON - The Pacific men's basketball team had the 18th-ranked team in the nation, Saint Mary's, on the ropes Thursday at Spanos Center.

But the Gaels outlasted the Tigers' comeback from a 19-point deficit in the second half and escaped Spanos Center with a 74-70 win.

Anthony Townes had 15 points and five rebounds, T.J. Wallace scored 15 points, and D.J. Ursery scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds off the bench for Pacific (8-16 2-9 West Coast Conference). Jock Landale had 22 points and 12 rebounds, and Dane Pineau had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Saint Mary's (20-2, 10-1).
