On paper, Sunday was slated as a difficult matchup for the Pacific women’s water polo team, with the No. 7 Tigers playing host to No. 2 UCLA. In the water, the match at Chris Kjeldsen Aquatics Complex was as advertised.
The Bruins jumped out to a quick start and ended up beating Pacific 12-8 on Sunday.
Before the end of the first period, UCLA built a quick 3-0 lead, despite the Tigers having nine shots on goal. Mariana Duarte scored one of her three goals to start the second period, with an assist coming from Karolina Hlavata, but UCLA responded with three more scores of its own.
