State champion coach earns national honor

To Reed Peters, the most memorable part of the Delta College baseball team’s season was the final out.

Back on May 28, the Mustangs were on the wrong end of a 5-2 deficit five innings into a game that, one way or another, would crown a state champion. Then, a five-run bottom of the sixth turned the game on its end.

Then, left-handed hurler Jacob Jordan finished two innings of one-hit, no-run ball after notching less than 10 innings all year. Then, he gave the ball to Kevin Kyle who, despite starting and throwing into the sixth inning two days earlier, told Peters he wanted the ball and said he was going to get it done.
