STOCKTON – University of the Pacific got off to a good start in their West Coast Conference opener but couldn’t keep up with Gonzaga’s up-tempo pace and eventually fell 99-72 to the Bulldogs in front of 716 fans Thursday evening at the Spanos Center.

The game couldn’t have begun better for the Tigers, who went up 7-1 on senior Jenelle Grant’s three-pointer two minutes in.

But Pacific went 0-for-10 shooting from the field and the Bulldogs went on a 10-5 run to take a 20-15 lead at the quarter and 31-21 early in the second.

The Tigers (6-6, 0-1 WCC) got to within 35-29 on a pair of Li free throws with 5:29 left in the half but the Bulldogs (8-4, 1-0) went on a 25-6 run while connecting on a blistering 11 consecutive shots en route to a 40-point quarter and 60-35 halftime lead.
